BRING ON THE CURLS!
Shampoo and condition hair and towel dry. If you wish, apply a mousse or styling product evenly through your hair to give extra hold to your curls.
Next, you may find it easier to section your hair and use clips to keep it out of the way until you are ready to apply Curlformers to that section.
Make sure you have put together the two parts of the Styling Hook and then, holding the handle, feed the Curlformer on to the Styling Hook.
- It is important that you check out the demo video to see how to do this!
Starting at the nape of the neck, and with the rest of your hair clipped out of the way, take a small section of hair approximately half an inch or 2 cms wide. Give it a quarter turn twist, and holding the handle higher than the hook, slip the twisted section into the hook. You may find it easier to ask your mum or a friend to help you!
Using your thumb and index finger, squeeze open slightly the end of the Curlformer closest to the scalp, enabling you to draw the hook back through the Curlformer.
- The demo video shows you clearly how to do this!
Apply all the Curlformers in this fashion, working your way from the back of the head through the sides and top to the front.
When complete, dry the hair for 30 minutes with a hairdryer (longer if you are using the Long & Extra Wide Curlformers and taking bigger sections of hair). Ideally, leave the Curlformers in for as long as possible for longer-lasting curls – you can even sleep with them!
To remove the Curlformers, use your thumb and index finger to squeeze open the end closest to the scalp. At the same time, use your free hand to unfurl the Curlformer and then gently remove from the hair. You won’t disturb the curl.
The curl will spring back into place. You can either brush your fingers through your hair for a soft, tousled, textured look or leave for perfect party curls.
Apply your favourite hairspray for longer-lasting hold and shine.
Apply a serum or even a conditioner to define your curls and add glossy shine!

Pretty cool product. I have kinky curly hair and have always wished to get bigger and bouncy curls without spending alot of money at the hairdresser. This is the first time I have seen it but I am really excited about purchasing this product and the hairstyles I can achieve with it! Thanks!
Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch. Do let us know how you get on and be sure to watch the step-by-step demo video first! We also recommend that you apply your Curlformers to freshly washed/damp hair – as this usually makes application easier. We look forward to hearing from you again soon and do email us your before and after photos too.

I love these! I put them in my daughter’s hair before bed and in the morning she has the most beautiful bouncy curls. She is a competetive dancer and the early morning performances are going to get a lot less “early”. This sleepy mum says, “THANK YOU!”
Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your little girl’s curls. We’re delighted that you’re so happy with the results AND that they mean you can get a little more much needed sleep. We hope that having the most beautiful bouncy curls will help to build her confidence even more! Good luck with the competitions.

Curlformers
Hello. I am sorry that your hook was broken and we would naturally be happy to send you a replacement hook. Please send an email to sales@curlformers.com with your full name and address and the Sales Team will send one to you. The tip with the hook is to push them together and pull them apart. The hooks do not like being twisted! We apologise for an inconvenience caused to you.
Do you have any other options for extra long hair? I’d like extra long- extra wide…
Hi Jessa
For extra long hair you could do a couple of things. The first is to apply the Extra Long and Wide a few inches away from your roots so that you just have curls around the bottom half of your hair, or you could try applying two Curlformers to each hair section. If you hair is REALLY long, you might need two Extra Long and Wide Curlformers, or you might need and Extra Long and Wide plus a Long and Wide. If you want a big, loose curl then we would suggest you apply two of the Long and Extra Wide Curlformers to each hair section.
I hope that helps?!
Thanks for your interest.
I bought the curlformers and am really excited about using them. Need to know should I apply permanent wave lotion before I put the curlformers in or after. If after, how should I apply the wave lotion?
Hi Linda
We only recommend that professional stylists perm with Curlformers – however, perm lotion should be applied after you’ve put the Curlformers in your hair – as you would when using perm rods! There are some guidelines on the FAQ section of the curlformers website, which should help also.
Hi,
When I try to apply my curlformer to my hair it feels like my hair is snagging or catching on the hook. It is almost like there is a burr in the hook. How can I smooth it out? Thank you for your reply!
Hi Crystal
Are you applying the Curlformers to damp hair and have you watched the demo videos (including Alicia’s bridal video) on our blog? How thick is your hair? If it’s very thick you might want to apply a little serum to your damp hair to help smooth the process? Look forward to hearing further from you. Sara
I just got curlformers today. I’m very excited about them! I have naturally wavy/curly hair that is very thick and doesnt look good with many styles but curlformers make my hair look amazing! I love them! They are the best hair product I have ever purchased!
Suzi – did you manage to get another Styling Hook?
Sara
Hello Suzi
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I’ll email you separately about the problem with your hook.
How many curlformers do I need to purchase? Will the 8 that come in a package be sufficient…? or should I get 2 packages? How long (in inches) are the actual curlformers for short and long hair?
I was wondering if you could tell me when curlformers will be available in Australia? I really want to try them as do some of my friends.
Thanks
Hi Rachael
Delighted to hear that you want to try Curlformers. You can buy them online in US$dollars/pounds sterling. Does that help you at all?

Hi Kristin
I am really sorry to hear about your experience. Did you apply them to damp hair? This is really important.

Hi!
Thanks for your email and we’re sorry to hear that you have not yet received your order. We’ll look into this for you and get back to you over the next 24 hours.

Curlformers
Hi Lucia
Thanks for your email and sorry to hear that your curls didn’t look completely gorgeous, especially as you had slept in them! It may be to do with the size of Curlformer you tried – but without seeing a picture, it’s hard to tell? If you can send one please do and we’ll see if that gives us any ideas. It also sounds as though you need some additional help with the right products to help you create soft, shiny more defined curls. Maybe a mousse isn’t so good on Type 4 curls and I would suggest the best place to ask about this would be http://www.naturallycurly.com – are you familiar with their site? It contains some great hints and tips and if you can send a photo we’ll also see if we can advise further.
Thanks for taking the time to get in touch.

Curlformers
so i have heard many great things about curlformers. but as all products do, i’m sure there may be flaws. is there any thing i should know before i purchase them? are they really worth the money?
Thank You,
Amanda
Hi Amanda, we have tried to cover the main Top Tips in our FAQ section of the website so please do not hesitate to check out that page. We strongly suggest that you watch the demo video before applying Curlformers for the first time- it will give you the visual tips you need to apply Curlformers successfully and snag-free. There are other videos/tutorials in the Blog and on other forums which you will also find featured in our different blog posts which you may want to watch. Finally, there is a fantastic and brand new tutorial made by NaturalChica on Youtube, who just loves them. We know that they are definitely worth the money as you will use Curlformers again and again for all types of occasions – including just to wake up on a Monday morning with a head full of Curls just to feel good!
Hope this helps!
I have just purchased a “starter” package of 6 extra long and wide curliforms. I am wondering how long I should leave them in? I have very thick, straight hair. I cannot tell if my hair is dry and have taken them out too early each time. I am currently only using them on half of the crown. Thanks for any advice.
Hi Cindy, there are a few things which may help you out. First of all, you may be putting too much hair in one Curlformer. You mention that your hair is thick, which means using smaller sections of hair is necessary for the hair to dry properly. If you want to avoid using a hair dryer completely then small sections of hair is essential. Otherwise you may want to start off the drying process by using a hair dryer on medium heat on the roots and the Curlformers themselves. If you are sleeping in them, you can quickly use a hairdryer when you wake up and then we can suggest that you wait a further 10 mins just to let your hair cool down and set into the curl completely (this is stage is not necessary for all hair types). Otherwise you can use a hairdryer on medium setting for 20-35 minutes, depending on how much water your hair retains, and again waiting a further 10 minutes for your hair sections to cool down and set in the curl. Finally, Curlformers also work really well on damp hair (rather than wet)- so this may be the answer for you; you may want to use a setting lotion for this technique. I hope this helps!
Im a educator at the Hanover, Pa campus. I seen the curlformers in Michigan and thought they were the coolest. I brought my 2 sets into the school for other educators to use and they students. They love them! The Sallys beauty store in Hanover Pa should be selling alot of them by now. Thanks for a wonderful product. HINT You may want to contact Empire Education Group in Pottsville Pa about putting them in the schools and having a demo done. We have 100 schools throughout the United States. Thanks again.
Dennis Rishel, Educator Cosmetology
I absolutely lovee curlformers! I’m in high school and i haven’t gone back to school yet but i can’t wait to show off my curls!
Hi Mallory! Thanks for writing in about your great results- sounds like you are going to wow your friends with your fabulous curls!
Hi, I’m looking for a slightly more casual loose curl and was wondering how to achieve a look like in picture number 5 on this page. Was that look achieved by brushing out the curls in picture number 4 or by using wider Curlformers?
Thanks.
Hello Abi,
The Curlformers used in these photos are the Extra Long & Wide. The look in picture number 4 is achieved directly when the Curlformers have been taken out of the hair. The tightness of the curl will depend to some extent on the type of hair and the styling product used but generally the curl will be the width of the Curlformer shown. If you are looking for a wider curl then you should go for the Extra Wide & Long Curlformers. Don’t forget, if your hair is too long for the Long length, you can apply the Curlformer further down the section of hair. The Curlformer will not slip on the section of hair and you will have a gorgeous curl starting further from the root.
Have fun with your Curlformers!
Hi. I have a daughter with very thick frizzy hair. Can we use the curlformers to make larger and less “puffy” hair
Hi Hellen,
Yes, we would suggest that Curlformers are ideal. They will straighten the hair texture as well as form the curl on the section of hair, effectively adding definition to your Daughters hair.
Have fun!
Hi,
I have used curlformers a few times. They do produce wonderful curls, but for some reason my curls dont stay in. I put them on freshly washed hair and leave them in overnight. I have used aloe vera or setting lotions but for some reason when I go to separate the curls the curl just falls out. I dont know how to fix thr problem. I know that many people with type 4b hair achieve excellent results without the use of heat, and I only really purchased them so I dont have to use heat on my hair.
I hope you can give some good advice.
Hi Sylvia, thank you for writing with your query please see a special response for you, provided by our fantastic Guest Blogger Mae, founder of NaturalChica!
Hi there!
From your description, it seems that if your hair is immediately losing the curl after removing it from the curlformer, your hair may not have had enough time to fully dry and set the curl. This happens to me sometimes when I set my hair too late at night, desperately hoping that my hair will be fully dry the next morning! : ) I also have tightly coiled, thick hair and it takes forever to dry!
The best thing you can do is to try setting it again with your styling products, ensuring that the hair is well saturated and smooth when putting on the curlformer, and then giving yourself a longer period of time to dry. If you are really pressed for time, you can also try using a blowdryer that has a cool setting, and just use the cool air to also ensure that your hair is fully dry before removing the curlformers.
Hope this helps!

Can you use curlformers on dread locs?
Hi Diana, the great answer is Yes You Can! Happy customers have written in to let us know how well they have worked on both Dreadlocks and Braids. We do however advise that the dreadlocks should be thin so as to allow the curl to form.
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for this brilliant product! I absolutely love how easy it is to have long lasting perfect curls every time. I have tried many products on my hair and none can compare to yours. My husband adores the cute curls that the curlformers produce and asks me to do my hair with them all the time. He even likes how “funky” I look in them while styling in them. Thank you again for a wonderful product.
Zanna
heyy there from Turkey:) Thanks for the quick shipment! I tried it and loved my curls but my hair is so damn straight and my curls didnt last long
I used spray but it didnt help. What should I do to make my curls last longer?
Hi Banu, It sounds like you may want to try applying a setting lotion to your wet hair, before putting the Curlformers in. Also, are you putting the Curlformers in on wet hair or just damp hair? This may make the difference depending on your hair type. Of course, if your hair is very wet, then it will take a bit longer to dry through the Curlformers, but you can take smaller sections of hair in each Curlformer, and the wait is worth it as the Curls should last longer! As your hair is very straight we do advise a curl setting lotion applied to your wet hair and then a setting spray when you have taken out the Curlformers.
Thank you so much for replying Mae and Alexandra. I will definately try the cool hairdryer setting, because I do tend to put the curlformers in last thing before going to bed. My hair probably needs more time to dry than I realise.
Wish me luck…..!
Hi!
Thanks for your email. The best Curlformer to use for a more relaxed wave is the Long and Extra Wide, so you could always buy a Starter Pack in this size to see how they work for you. In the meantime and as long as your hair isn’t too thick in texture, we would suggest taking slightly larger sections of hair. Also, if you remove the Curlformers when your hair is not quite dry and then finish drying with a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer, that may help. Once you remove the Curlformers you can also loosen the curl by running your fingers through your hair.
We hope this helps!

thanx alexandra, I used curl setting lotion on my damp hair and put them in. now I’m waiting for the results I hope it will work. I cant wait to see the results
thanx again for this wonderful product

Hi Emily
Thanks for your email and for coming to see us at The Clothes Show! We’re happy to hear that you like Curlformers and are planning to buy a pack after Christmas. In our experience, a Styling Kit contains enough Curlformers to curl a full head of hair, but if it’s really thick and long you may to top this up with a Starter Pack.
I hope that helps?
I saw curlformers advertised in a magazine at my hairdressers last wk, they looked fab, just watched the video now and ordered a pack (treating myself for christmas) I have 2 small babies and these look they can save me hrs of time with a curling iron (which i can never get all the sections at the back). Just want them NOW. Hope nothing goes wrong with the delivery
Hi Tracy
Thanks for getting in touch with us and we hope you and your little girl are enjoying creating gorgeous soft curls with your Curlformers. We have never heard of them falling out in the middle of the night, so hopefully your daughter should wake with them all in place. We look forward to hearing how you get on with them!
With very best wishes for the New Year.
Sara and all at Curlformers
Hi
Would suggest you try either the Long and Wide, or for a looser curl the Long and Extra Wide. Perhaps start by purchasing a Starter Pack of each size to see which suits you best? You may find you like using a combination of the two!

Sara
Hi Becky
Thanks for your email. Have you thought about buying a soft hood attachment for your hairdryer? It just fits on the nozzle and the bonnet/hood fits over your head and it will really help to speed up the process. They’re not expensive (about £10) and you can buy them online or try Sally’s if you have one near you?
If you do decide to use one of these, the trick is to let your hair cool down completely (once you’ve switched off the dryer) before removing your Curlformers. The time it takes to dry will vary, depending on the thickness of your hair but I would suggest for best results you try drying them in this way for at least 45 mins, cool for 15-20 mins and then remove, but ideally leave them in for as long as possible. Even if you’re convinced your hair is dry, leave your Curlformers in until you’re ready to go out – this will help them last longer. If you remove your Curlformers and find that your curls are still a little damp, you could use a diffuser attachment (again, this just fits on the nozzle of your hairdryer) and gently diffuse dry. I hope this helps. Please let me know how you get on!

Hi Emily
Thanks for getting in touch with us! I’m not sure if you’ve already had a reply to your email – so apologies if this is a duplication. A Styling Kit should contain enough Curlformers to do a full head of hair.
We hope you have fun with them!

Love the curlformer’s. My daughter is in competitive cheerleading and this saved us a ton of time….Absolutely love the curl. only had difficulty with longer hair it was harder. Wish I knew how to apply them better but awesome product!!!!
Hi Chris
Thanks for getting in touch and so pleased to hear that your daughter loves them. Where does she cheerlead? We’ve just posted a new step-by-step demo video which we took while participating in a major consumer event in the UK called The Clothes Show Live. If you go to the blog on the curlformers.com website and take a few minutes – each video is only about 3 mins long – I think you’ll find it really helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions and as your daughter will probably tell you, perfect practice makes perfect and I think it would be true to say that applies to most things!
Look forward to hearing from you.
Sara and the Curlformers team
Hi Cyndi
Thanks for your email. Interested to hear that you’ve had a keratin smoothing treatment. Has it done the trick and tamed your curls?! For a loose, wavy look I’d suggest you use the Long and Extra Wide Curlformers and apply to big sections of damp hair and leave to dry. If you leave any sections out they will obviously remain straight but you could use the Curlformers to add random wave and texture, which is a very ‘now’ look! Please let us know how you get on and if you have any further questions.

Hi !
I want to know if you make delivery in France ?
Thanks for your answer
Do you have stores in Australia that sell these wonderful items??? Really would like to know as I am sick of pin curls every night.
Im from Australia too and would like to try them..
I had bought some from Ebay but they dont sell extra long ones
Please let us know if you have any distributors in AU Sydney
Thank you
Hi There!
The only things we can suggest are: use a mousse or styling spray with hold and apply to damp hair before curling with Curlformers. When hair is completely dry remove the Curlformers and don’t brush through your curls. Mist with hairspray and leave. Unfortunately they will fall out gradually after a day or so!
Hi, my daughter has 4a/b hair and only wash every couple of weeks as it tends to break her relaxed hair. Wondering if using these in her dry hair will achieve the same results as I am not wanting to have to wash her hair everytime we use them. Thanks
Hi Nicolle
Thanks for your email. Sorry to hear your daughter is having problems with breakage. My advice, in the circumstances, would be to avoid subjecting her hair to any additional stress – whether it’s using Curlformers, rollers or any other styling tool until her hair is strong and flexible again. Using a range like NIOXIN may help, especially the nourishing scalp treatment. If you do use Curlformers, these must always be applied to freshly washed/damp hair as they work using a traditional wash and set method. If you apply them to dry hair they won’t make any difference and if you TRY applying them to dry hair you’ll probably find they snag and cause more breakage. I hope this helps?

I’m really intrigued by this product, as I’ve been trying to find a good substitute for hand-done pincurls for years! (My mother used to wrap my hair in long strips of cloth but it’s impossible for me to do that myself.) I wondered how long it usually takes for someone to put up a whole head of very long hair, once they’ve become practiced at it?
Hi Evie
Thanks for getting in touch with us. Everyone who sees Curlformers says the same as you – the curls you can achieve with them remind everyone of the rags they used to use!! As a guide, it will probably take you about half and hour to Curlform a whole head of very long hair……it depends whether you’re applying the Curlformers and then sliding them down the hair section until there is no hair sticking out of the bottom of them (which means it will lie flat at the parting and curl round the bottom section of your hair) or whether you want a full head of spiral curls and need to apply two Curlformers to each section of hair. If your hair is very long, you’ll find it easier if you ask a friend or your mum to help you with the back section.
Hope this info helps but do get in touch if you need further advice.

Hi, I’ve got 3c, 4a hair and I’ve been wanting to buy the Extra Wide and Long Curlformers to create a wavier kind of look without using heat on my hair. I’m worried about how many I need to get because I’ve have a big head and a lot of hair. I’m also wondering if I’ll be able to use them for much longer since my hair is about Bra Strap Length right now?
Thanks for your help!
Hi
Thanks for your enquiry. The Long and Extra Wide Curlformers will be great for creating a wavier look and if you buy a Styling Kit, this should do a full head so we would recommend you start with that and if you find you need a few more you can always buy a separate Starter Pack to top up with. They will curl hair up to 18″ long so as your hair gets longer the best thing to do is apply your Curlformers at the root in the usual way and if there is any hair sticking out of the bottom of the Curlformer, just slide the CF down the hair section until the hair is totally encased. This should work well for you for sometime. We hope this helps and please let us know how you get on.

Hi,
I have natural hair extensions (bonded with glue) and wondered if the curlformers would be suitable for me as I have extensions?
They look so easy!
I currently plait by hair but am not getting as curly as I would like so if they are suitable will definitely be investing in some!
Thanks
Hi Louise
Yes! Curlformers are very popular with girls who have extensions. Because you can use them without having to apply ANY heat (gentle heat from a hairdryer if you want to speed up the process) they’re ideal for use on extensions because they won’t melt the glue and will create gorgeous curls. Remember to apply them to damp/freshly washed hair and leave to dry. Please let us know how you get on.

Hello Eloisa, thank you for contacting us at Curlformers. We do ship to the Philippines from our website and we would recommend the Long and Wide if you want a gorgeous curl that is in between a spiral curl and a loose beach wave. Do let us know how you get on.
Hello Kathy, we are sorry to hear that you have been very unfortunate with your hook. The important thing is to push the hooks together and not twist them. We would love to offer you a free hook as compensation so do get in touch with me at sales@curlformers.com and we can try to rectify the situation.
Hello (: this is amazing!

Hi! I would like to achieve a Cheryl Cole style with lots of root volume and big loose curls at the ends. Which curlformers would you recommend to achieve this look?
Hi Jessica
Thanks for getting in touch. There are a couple of options that you could try depending on the length and thickness of your hair, to help you achieve Cheryl Cole volume and style. If your hair is really thick, we recommend using the Long and Extra Wide Curlformers, which you apply root-to-tip all over. The bigger the section of hair you thread through the Curlformers, the looser the wave/curl, so if you want a slightly tighter curl, take smaller sections of hair. Once hair is completely dry and you have removed the Curlformers, brush through to smooth the root area but don’t take your brush right through to the ends, use your fingers to separate. Or if your hair is really long (up to 22″) you could try the Extra Long and Wide Curlformers (or Long and Wide if it’s a bit shorter). These will give you a tighter curl than the Long and Extra Wide Curlformers but you can brush through to loosen and the volume will probably last longer. Apply them root-to-tip all over and use the same technique – brushing hair at the root/parting area but don’t take it right through to the ends, just use your fingers to separate. The more you brush, the less curl you’ll end up with but you’ll still keep the volume! You’ll probably need to experiment but have fun and we hope this helps!
Thanks for the help!!
Can’t wait to purchase curlformers now!!!!
I have 12 extra long and wide curlformers and I’m not sure if that’s enough. My hair is pretty long and thin and it’s dead straight. I’ve used only 12 before and I really like the results. However, I’m debating as to whether I should get another package. Please reply
Hello Emily. We would recommend a Styling Kit for a full head of hair. There are 40 Extra Long and Wide in each Kit and two hooks. You could use your 12 Curlformers in a pony-tail, which would look cute too
hi sara ur advice seems to reaqlly help, so i have a question. Can you apply curlformers by yourself or do you have to have someone help you? i curl my hair by myself all the time and are wondering if these are right for me because im worried my hair is getting badly damaged because of all the heat and one last question, would u say apply the curlformers to your hair within say 15 minutes of washing it or right away??
Hi Mado
Sorry for the delay in responding to your question – I’ve only just picked it up! I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas and New Year holiday?
Yes, you can apply Curlformers by yourself and you can also ask a friend to help you. If your hair is really long, it’s usually easier to get someone to help, especially with the back section. But experiment and see how you get on. They’re easy to apply and once you get the knack, most girls seem able to apply them without help! If your hair is suffering from heat damage then you definitely need to find an alternative way of curling your hair. Applying them within 15 mins of washing your hair should be fine – the main reason for applying them to damp/freshly washed hair, is that they work on a ‘wash and set’ basis, so you apply them to damp hair and then let them dry (or dry with a hairdryer). This is how the curls are formed, rather than applying heat styling irons which cause so much damage. Does that make sense? Do email me sara@curlformers.com if you need any more help!

HI! Thanks for posting. Why not try the Extra Long and Wide Curlformers? The important tip is to use them on damp, freshly washed hair combed through with some curling lotion or mousse. Leave to dry completely or speed up the process with a hair-dryer on a low to medium heat. Curlformer curls do last longer than GHD’s but you will need to find a good setting lotion that works for your type of hair. Wella do a good range of styling lotions. Let us know how you get on
Hello! Thank you for your question. Curlformers will give you longer-lasting curls especially if you comb through a setting lotion on your damp, freshly washed hair before applying them. We would recommend the Extra Long and Wide for your length hair. Do let us know if you have any other questions about Curlformers.
Hello Effy! Thank you for your question. Sleeping in Curlformers does create fantastic curls for the next day with no flattening effect at all. We would advise you to try your Curlformers out in the day time first to see how your curls turn out. The important tip is to apply them to damp, freshly washed hair with some styling lotion combed through. Take small sections of hair and apply the Curlformers. Leave to dry completely or speed up the process with a hair-dryer on a low or medium heat. Do let us know if you have any other questions about using Curlformers.
Hello! Thank you for your enquiry. Your Curlformers should not be cracking, so please can you send an email to sales@curlformers.com and they will talk you through the process of returning them. You will be, naturally, sent some replacement ones.
