How to use Curlformers on wavy hair

This is a great video showing how to use Curlformers to create lovely curls on wavy hair (although it looks pretty straight to me!?). Anyway, it’s still a great look because it shows the kind of style you can create by applying the Curlformers a few inches away from the parting, so you end up with curls around the mid-to-lower section of the hair. Very pretty - thank you! BTW, you can avoid tangles and problems with application by keeping the hook upside down and always apply to damp hair and let it dry naturally or use a soft hood attachment to speed up the process. You won’t get softer, better conditioned curls anywhere!

To create gorgeous spiral curls like this with your Curlformers, please see directions beneath the picture:

wash and condition hair
part and comb through and section to keep hair you’re not working with, out of the way
take small sections of hair, apply Long and Narrow Curlformers at the root. Then use your thumb and index finger to open the ring at each end of the Curlformer and slide it down the hair section until there is no hair hanging down from the bottom of the Curlformer.
leave to dry for as long as possible before gently removing.
mist with hairspray for hold
prepare to dazzle!

According to her latest tweet Mariah’s stylist abused her with a curling iron….but to be fair, it sounds as though her stylist was trying to curl Mariah’s hair while she was dancing and singing her new song! We need to get the message to the lovely Mariah and her stylist that thanks to Curlformers she CAN have it all (at the same time) and she can dance, sing and get gorgeous diva curls – without burning herself or her hair.

How to Get Curly Hair

When it comes to getting curly hair there are several methods that you can use. Often these methods include the use of straightening irons or rollers. You will need to take extra care when using straightening irons to curl your hair as it is possible that you will leave your hair damaged due to excessive heat. With the following steps you should be able to achieve a nice curl like the styles pictured below:

The first step is to wash your hair and give it a blow dry, making sure your hair is hot will make it easier to curl and hold its shape. Make sure you use a protective spray with the emphasis being on heat protection, as this will give you some protection against potential heat damage as well as being able to give your hair that nice shiny finish.

You will then want to take your hair in small segments whilst having a layer of your hair in contact with your straightening iron plate at all times. There are many different styles of straightening irons available but as general rule titanium coated or ceramic straightening irons will be best for your hair.

Starting just a few inches away from your head will give you nice curls without making your hair look all messed up and mangled, as happens more easily with the hair closer to your head. Take the remaining length of hair and curl it around the plate of your straighteners.

Now that you have a segment of your hair curled use hair spray with a fine mist to hold it in place. You will want to make sure that you don’t pull the curls out by running your fingers through your hair. Let the curls cool down and they will then set in place.

Repeat this process all over your head to give yourself a wonderful set of beautiful curls. A few extra things to remember are to not comb your hair as this can make it frizz up and also look less natural. Try not to curl your hair too often because as mentioned above excessive heat can be damaging to your hair. In addition to environmental factors, constant washing, blow drying and use of heat styling irons can cause colour-fade.

Of course you could always use Curlformers to curl your hair, which will leave you with the same result without the need to subject your hair to excessive heat.

Wear your curls with Pride!

Create rock chick curls!

As you’ll see from my photos I’ve got really fine hair and I wanted to achieve some rock-chick curls without using styling irons. Velcro rollers are great but they just don’t stay in my hair and they’re too big anyway so when a friend told me about Curlformers I couldn’t wait to try them. Once you get the hang of them (I watched the video on the website first!) they’re SO easy and the results are AMAZING! My pictures aren’t great, but you’ll get the gist and I hope you can see what a difference they make to my otherwise poker straight, fine hair!

Before Curlformers

So, how do I do it?

Simple! I wash my hair and comb it through and then I apply some Tigi Curls Rock Booster mixed with a tiny amount of Alterna Texturizing Glaze to give my hair some body. These work well for me as my hair is medium to fine but if yours is thicker you could use some Redken Sheer Straight or some mousse mixed with a little serum for greater control. I dry my fringe completely because I don’t want it curly, and then I give the rest of it a quick blast before applying the Curlformers.

During Curlformers

Get great curls with the following advice

Section your hair with clips starting around the bottom & start putting your curlformers in; about an one to two inch sections
Make sure you comb each section through & gently twist it before putting your curlformer on (curls will be more perfect).
As I don’t want volume at the root I apply the Curlformers about 1-2″ away from it.

Creating Curls with Curlformers – the insider secrets

When you’ve finished (I do about three layers ) – leave to dry
If you become a Curlformers junkie, like me, it’s worth investing in a soft hood dryer that attaches to your hairdryer and it only takes about 20-30 minutes to dry (longer if your hair is thicker/longer) – then I leave to cool for 10 minutes (very important!) before taking out the Curlformers.
If you’re leaving your hair to dry naturally it will take a couple of hours, again depending on the length of your hair, but if you’ve got the time the longer the better.

The stunning after result!

When you’re ready to roll, gently remove the Curlformers (watch the video!)……I leave them in curls & use hairspray to set them in place & then I like to mess them up for a rock-chick style! I apply a dash of finishing cream on any unruly bits & I’m ready to rock!

Top Tip… Have a shower/bath before you start as the steam will make your curls drop if you do it afterwards!
